What makes a beaches garden different
Coastal gardens face problems that gardens a few kilometres inland never see. Care that works on the North Shore does not always work here.
Salt on the wind
Salt spray burns the leaves of plants that are not built for it, especially on the ocean side of a block. Choosing plants that tolerate it, and pruning out the damage, keeps a coastal garden looking its best.
Sandy soil
Beach sand drains in hours and holds few nutrients. Beds need organic matter, mulch and regular feeding to hold on to water and stay healthy.
Wind and exposure
Strong onshore winds dry out pots, lawns and new plants quickly, and can loosen young trees. Planting, staking and watering all have to allow for it.
Steep blocks and tall trees
Further north, around Newport, Avalon Beach and Palm Beach, many homes sit on steep blocks under tall trees, and plenty back onto bushland.

Which plants cope best near the beach?
Plants with tough, small, grey or leathery leaves usually handle salt and wind best, and many coastal natives are made for it. We suggest plants for your block’s exposure before anything goes in the ground.
How often does a coastal garden need looking after?
Usually as often as any established garden, fortnightly or monthly. Sandy soil and wind mean watering and mulch need closer attention through summer.
Do I get the same team every visit?
Systems are in place for full transparency so the business can maintain the same consistency with every team. Business owners are involved every day, every step of the way.
How does the pricing work?
We walk the garden, build a schedule around what it actually needs, then agree one price before anything starts. That figure does not move.
Do I have to commit to regular visits?
No. Most clients end up on a regular schedule because it is easier, but one-off work is fine too, whether that is a pre-sale clean up, a hedge reshape or a tree removal.
